It’s that time of year again! My calendar fills up with family sessions this time of year because a.) fall in Portland is beautiful and b.) families want photos for their holiday cards. Over the years I’ve compiled 5 tips that I send out before their photo session and I wanted to share them with you!
1. Hair: try to schedule haircuts a week before the photo session. This gives time for the cut to grow in and for you to be comfortable with the look. Try to keep hair clean and simple.
2. Outfits: try to coordinate and pick colors that compliment one another outfits, rather than matching. Try to avoid loud patterns or colors. One thing I always recommend are layers, they are flattering and help to bring your personality to the photo! You can find my Pinterest board for clothing inspiration here.
3. Food & Rest: Kids are best when they are rested and fed so they are calm and have good energy for the session. That is always easier said than done sometimes…I get it I’m a mama of 2 boys. It’s always a good idea to bring bribe food/candy just in case I’m not enough to hold the kids’ attention. (Trust me, this may really come in handy with the younger ones!) Fruit gummies usually work great!
4. Get them excited! Build up the session to your kids! Make it something fun for them to look forward to.
5. Chill: Try to stay relaxed which will help your kids become comfortable in front of the camera.
